Dr. Studly and his lady dressed up their dogs as a hot dog and lady bug. Lola was a bumble bee….neither of the dogs enjoyed their Halloween fun. Lola looks like someone ate her Halloween treats. The costumes kept the humans amused!

Spooky

October 31, 2007 at 2:13 pm (Amusing Life Experiences)

spooky-sissy.jpgsissy.jpg

For those that know me know that I love Halloween and anything to do with ghosts. The Discovery Channel has a show called “A Haunting” that always frightens me to death and it has been shown everyday in October. My contribution to Halloween is this spooky picture of a ruin in England that some say is haunted. I like this picture because my sister fits in well with her hair blowing in the wind…it was REALLY cold that day. Perfect day for spooks.

Colbert 08 supporters almost crash facebook

October 31, 2007 at 1:39 pm (domestic affairs, election process)

colbertturtle_300.jpg

Stephen Colbert’s semi-joking, semi-serious bid to get on the ballot in his home state of South Caroline as a favorite son got something of a shot in the arm recently.

From the BBC:

“After Colbert announced on 16 October that he would run, high-school student Raj Vachhani set up a group on Facebook called “1,000,000 Strong For Stephen T Colbert”.

The group was inspired by a similar movement in support of Democratic nomination hopeful Barack Obama, called “One Million Strong for Barack”.

While the group supporting Mr Obama took more than eight months to gain 380,000 members, Mr Vachhani’s group backing a candidate running in just one state has become one of the largest political groups on Facebook in less than two weeks.”

Apparently, the traffic on the Colbert page came close to overwhelming facebook’s servers, while Barack Obama’s page struggled for months to gather 380,000 members. Obama is supposed to be the candidate that is aiming for the youth vote.  Could the electorate be so restless that a novelty candidate has a chance?

Kucinich questions Bush’s mental health

October 30, 2007 at 8:17 pm (Press Coverage, election process)

confused.jpg

Dennis Kucinich raised a few eyebrows during an interview where he pontificated the mental faculties of President Bush. Kucinich is more or less a protest candidate that will fizzle out before the end of the year. He is also last in the Democratic polls…so he is pulling out all the stops to gain attention. The question of Bush’s mental health was made in light of comments that the President made about a nuclear Iran precipitating World War III.

“I seriously believe we have to start asking questions about his mental health,” Kucinich, an Ohio congressman, said in an interview with The Philadelphia Inquirer’s editorial board on Tuesday. “There’s something wrong. He does not seem to understand his words have real impact.”

“You cannot be a president of the United States who’s wanton in his expression of violence,” Kucinich said. “There’s a lot of people who need care. He might be one of them. If there isn’t something wrong with him, then there’s something wrong with us. This, to me, is a very serious question.”

Is Bush really losing his mind? With all the pressure he is under he may be starting to crack…or perhaps Kucinich is just grappling for attention to his weak candidacy.

Nacho, Nacho Man…

October 30, 2007 at 4:26 pm (election process, political scandals)

colbert.jpg

My once buddy John Edwards and his camp may have bitten off more than he wanted when trying to sling nacho cheese in the face of the hotness that is possible candidate Stephen Colbert.

Edwards’ kiddos, in discussing Colbert’s supposed “sponsoring” by Doritos corn chips (flavor unspecified, although I am a HUGE fan of both Cool Ranch and Nacho Cheese, as is evident in my ever-expanding posterior) claimed that he (Edwards)  “has never taken a dime from taco chip lobbyists, and America deserves a president who isn’t in the pocket of the snack food special interests.”   Oh snap.

But is it really called a “taco chip”, people??  Who are these people and can someone get them a damn Texan in there to explain that they are tortilla chips?

Here is where the good times roll… Apparently, Edwards was given some nacho, nacho checks from the Queen Frito Bandita herself, Joyce Duesman, who is now at PepsiCo, who, in turn makes Doritos.    Jeebus, I hope I got all of that right.

Court Drops Charges on Pinochet Family

October 29, 2007 at 9:41 am (Latin America)

petracaroline.jpg

Unfortunately… any sort of vindication on behalf of those who wanted Pinochet’s family found guilty will have to wait because all charges have been dropped in regards to corruption allegations. The Santiago Court of Appeals also dropped charges against 10 of the late dictator’s former associates and aides.

From the AP..

A judge failed to question the Pinochet family and former associates before indicting them on the corruption charges, the appeals court ruled. It also ruled that the Pinochet family could not be charged with misuse of state funds because none of them was a government employee. The indictments against two Pinochet associates were upheld, Fuentes said.

Pinochet’s eldest son, Augusto, 62, also remains under inducement because he did not file an appeal.Prosecutor Alfonso Insunza said Friday’s ruling will be appealed before the Supreme Court.

The relatives of the late dictator have repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and called the indictments politically motivated. They said Pinochet’s funds were legitimate, resulting from savings, investment and donations he received. They also claimed Cerda was biased, and noted the judge flew to the United States immediately after issuing the indictments to receive an award for his work on behalf of human rights.

Cerda is now under investigation by his peers to determine whether he broke internal rules by criticizing Chile’s judiciary while in the United States. He said Chile’s Supreme Court has failed to update the law on human rights issues.”

Interesting…

Che Guevara’s hair

October 27, 2007 at 9:16 am (Latin America)

lola-caroline.jpg

Che Guevara must be turning in his Marxist grave because a lock of hair taken from him after his death is now being auctioned for a great sum of money. One lock of his hair is valued at 100,000 dollars and the previous owner of the hair does not want it tested because it may destroy it. The auction was held in Dallas and the new owner of the hair is Bill Butler of Rosenberg. Butler owns a shop of 60’s memorabilia and will put the hair on display.

After Guevara’s death, Gustavo Villoldo, a CIA liaison for a group of Army Rangers proceeded to take pictures of Guevara and remove his belongings which included his Rolex and a lock of hair. Guevara’s family… including his widow have protested this marvel of Capitalism.

Above is a picture of Lola and myself before going out last night. Lola is much better, but feeling a bit shy.

Venezuelan Che Monument

October 21, 2007 at 9:22 pm (Latin America, Latin Left)

 _40778047_chavez_che203.jpg

Hugo Chavez is never one to hide any feelings about anything including his contempt for George Bush and his adoration for Che Guevara. Chavez believes that Guevara emulates the Socialist model for all Venezuelan’s to follow. Socialist…hmmm…it was always my opinion that Guevara was an outright Marxist.

In order to honor his 40th Death anniversary, Chavez erected an 8 foot glass statute of Che that was later destroyed by gun shots. The shattered statue was shown on television and Chavez went on to say that the entire nation “repudiated” the vandalism. Apparently there are some that do not believe that Che is a model of anything in their nation including an education reform act entitled “Mission Che Guevara” In recent months I have found that Che is not such much an image of revolution in Latin America as much as a flawed political leader.

Real Time Mayhem

October 19, 2007 at 10:46 pm (Press Coverage, domestic affairs)

maher-0514.jpg

I’m in the middle of watching Real Time with Bill Maher. The guests are Sheila Jackson Lee, Chris Mathews and Joel Stein. Good panel, however the show has been marred by incessant  heckling from nut-job activists. The activist heckling was indecipherable due to poor acoustics, but they seem to have a range of issues including conspiracy theories  concerning September 11 and President Bush.

I will follow up on this strange development on live TV.

Caroline

Hey Caro- no disrespect by editing your post, but I have acquired video on this and thought it would be beneficial. XO- Teri Ann
